The Monarchs came into Blacksburg and smoked the Hokies in an embarrassing low point for a once great program. While the program officially died last week against Vandy the Pry regime came to an end Saturday, a regime bookended by unexpected losses to the Monarchs. This week we close the Brent Pry era and start looking towards the future and whether the BOV and hiring committee can find a Lazarus Pit to bring this program back to life.

We regret to inform you that, after a 12 year battle with mediocrity and irrelevance, the Virginia Tech football program was pronounced dead on September 6th 2025 at 10:57PM in Blacksburg, VA. The program is survived by living legend Frank Beamer, Bud Foster, and a myriad of football alumni that helped build a rough around the edges but beloved team into a perennial ten win program and Championship contender. We now turn our attention to Vanderbilt with the specter of last year's opener still blazed in our memory banks. Will the Hokies get right against their second SEC opponent of the early 2025 season or will Diego Pavia and Company work some magic in Blacksburg?

This week we recap what was both a hopeful and frustrating outing for the Hokies down in Atlanta. Virginia Tech matched South Carolina blow for blow for four quarters but a couple big plays and consistent execution errors by the Hokies led to a 24-11 loss. This iteration brings a little more intrigue than previous years as we get our first real look at what the Hokies will look like on both sides of the ball under new coordinators Philip Montgomery and Sam Siefkes. We invite our good buddy Coach Robbie Compton, fresh off his trip to Blacksburg for the Hokies High School Coaches Chalk Talk, to give us his assessment of how these new schemes might fit our personnel.

This week we're taking a dive into where the chips fell with the shuffling of the offensive and defensive staff this off season. We also examine the roster updates for 2025, some of our early takeaways from Spring practice, and put a bow on winter sports.

The Hokies took much less time turning around their offensive coordinator hire, securing former Auburn Offensive Coordinator and Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery to take over the reins from the departing Tyler Bowen. We diagnose which boxes this hire checks and what we can expect from a Montgomery led offense as Spring practice looms around the corner.
