It was nice having another Saturday that was stress free, just watching college football, not worried about whether the Hokies were going to take care of business or not. And we get another one this week. So that's going to be be be pretty interesting. What was the what was what was y'all's favorite game of the weekend? Let's let's start there. Oh. Oh oh Sheldon, y'all got one? I'm I'm like, I'm I'm trying to inflect on what was Alabama. Yeah, Alabama, South Carolina was pretty good. I watched that.

5:18 Tennessee, Arkansas was pretty good. Tennessee, Florida. I mean, Tennessee, Florida, Tennessee, Florida was pretty good. So I mean, you kind of kind of came down to what I thought. Sheldon, you got 1. Yeah, I kind of I, I missed the early afternoon games because I went outside and was able to touch some grass, wanted to hike South of Waynesboro, so got outside a little bit. So, but yeah, not, not that it was a good game, but I enjoyed watching Boise State just to watch Ashton Gente. I've kind of been on the the Gente hype train. So I stayed up till 2:00 AM watching the Boise State Hawaii game to watch. That go off. For 200 yards, so I enjoyed that. Yeah, I got, I got to go with that Oregon, Ohio State game. And, you know, you got to love the the call to throw a 12th man out there and run a little clock that, that that's, that's the way to, you know, play some 3D chess out there. All right, you like that one.

6:14 I, I enjoyed watching the Penn State USC game A because when that game went to overtime and USC didn't score, I knew I had won that one. And I think that was the only one I got right on the pickums. Not sure. We just lost Tally. I don't know where he went, but we'll get back to him in just a second here. But mine, mine, LSU, Ole Miss lived up. LSU, Ole Miss lived up Saturday night, Death Valley, Jason's pick went to overtime. Lane Kiffin loses another one. And now basically they're just about out of it. They're just about out of the playoffs unless everything breaks perfectly. We've been talking about everybody said the playoffs going to not make the regular season fun. Well, to me, it's making it better because right now Ole Miss is not out, but Ole Miss cannot lose again. Ole Miss cannot lose again.

Know, I don't think it worked. I don't think it matters, man. I think you don't think it matters. It it worked, it works fine until I get on here and then it wants to. It starts acting crazy. Somebody is pushing a little button or something. They don't want me to talk. They don't. Want to talk all man? UVA UVA fans, man, they messing man and they're there you go. There you got to. Get on them all. Right. Well, it is Tell the Truth Tuesday and unfortunately, Shelton, we're not. Unfortunately, it's fortunately Shelton could not join us last week.

7:48 He was taking care of some business. So Shelton's got a few little things that he wants to share with us. We're going to call it Shelton's Corner and Tell the Truth Tuesday. If y'all haven't go key play.com. Shelton wrote a hell of an article last week concerning a lot of stuff he wanted to bring up tonight. But Shelton, we're going to give you the floor man. Yeah, so I I talked about this in my article for the key play this week. I like you mentioned, you want to go check that out and become a member too when I subscribe. But so First off, you know, I think we've seen car in drones develop a lot as a password this year. You know, he started off pretty rough, but since then he's he's improved a lot since that game against Marshall. You look at the overall PFF numbers, pretty kind to him, 24th overall highest rated quarterback in the country, Kyron Jones 41st passing. Now to me that's a big deal because that's a sixty spot improvement from Ray was last year. You know, he was not particularly efficient as a passer last year and certainly the the advanced metrics weren't kind to him there, but the graders have liked him this year.

8:48 And So what I want to do is figure out why. So a few things. First of all, Kyron's turnover worthy play percentage is down a little bit from last year. So he's making good decisions with the football. He has been pressured a lot. He's top ten and most times pressured as a percentage of drop backs, but he has 11 throwaways, which is 1/3 most I believe in the country. So he has a really good ability to avoid the disaster plays, get rid of all he needs to and he's done a good job of minimizing the the number of sacks relative to the times he's been pressured. So that's been a huge help for this offense in terms of avoiding those big negative plays. The other thing is with Kyron in terms of intermediate throws, so I talked about this a lot, he grades up over 90 on PFF on intermediate throws.

9:33 Remember that's 10 to 19 yards down the field. So why is that a big deal? Well basically intermediate throws are the result of post snap decisions. So you have to go through your progressions, diagnose the coverage in contrast to deep balls and throws that are behind the line of scrimmage, which are typically they're not always the result of a pre snap decisions. Those are usually predetermined. So the fact that he's improved a lot on those intermediate throws, I think is a really, really good sign. And then we saw again, Stanford, you know, he was more comfortable scanning the pocket, moving around the pocket, manipulating the pocket with his feet and just having the confidence to scan the field and, and stand tall and make good throws. And I think that's a, that's a sign of really impressive maturation there.

10:16 So good job for for Karen there. The other thing is I talked about pressure rate. Tech has done a great job of getting to the quarterback this year. They're D lined this year as a team, they ranked second in sack rate, 12%, seventh in a pressure rate and 21 total sacks as a team, which is I believe second most among FBS teams against FBS opponents. So APR has been awesome, Peoples has been awesome, even Wilfred Renee, I think is has shown a lot of growth on the D line spot. So and I could go through all the numbers you want to, but really Long story short, the D line has done a great job making life hell for buzz and quarterbacks. And I think it's gonna it's gonna sustain itself throughout the course of the season. So I did have some other notes on Beige Hall 2, but I'm gonna get to I'm gonna get to that a little bit later when we kind of progress through gift some awards. But but that's kind of what I talked about. Basically Chiron, a ton of growth we've seen this year. And then Zacksburg, man, it's back. Zacksburg is back.

11:11 I love Zachsburg being back and when we can lead from that, pressuring the quarterback standpoint, that makes the whole back end work a whole lot better, makes their job easier, and it makes the, you know, the the defensive chance of forcing turnovers go up significantly. Anytime you can rush the quarterback, make them go faster through their reads, make them get rid of the ball when they're not ready, that's only a good thing in terms of turnover. So the more we can keep that up, the better. And you're seeing everybody eat a little bit. Obviously you got APR number, you know #5 in the country and Sachs. But then you, you know, everybody else is doing their part as well. And, and having really no weakness across that defensive line.

11:55 I think it's really been a big thing for us this year because it's it's kept that pressure even when you, you know, douche kind of shade your protection towards APR's way. Yep. The bigger thing about the intermediary passing thing I think is what just kind of jumps out at me when you were talking about it, Shelton is because that's your 3 to fives because that's the someone is just about there and he's making the right reads. And what that does is over time, eventually, well, the safeties have to stay back, right. Safeties have to stay back. You have to start doing things different defensively like OK, we we are not getting there fast enough to where he's not hitting that I think intermediates what's in the 15 is that an exact 10 to 19. So when you're starting to hit those, especially with the guys who we have with Quan Felton, with Jay Lane, with Jennings, with you put you put the ball in those guys hands 10 yards down the field.

12:52 It's usually not a 10 yard game. It's usually it borderlines on becoming an explosive play every time because of who they are. And for Kyron that is a great maturation process. It's really good because of what I like hearing about that is it wasn't the the best first three games. He had a little rough start to this season, but up here it's never stopped churning. Mentally, he has not quit. Mentally, you're seeing him get stronger and stronger and that's a great thing to see. Yeah, and, and just to put a bow on that, I I saw Steven mention in the chat they're doing without blitzing. I agree. I haven't seen a ton of blitzes. I saw maybe 11 safety or linebacker blitz against Stanford. But you know, they've done a good job getting home with four.

13:32 And I think, you know, obviously the rushing stats have been not great. That's probably 1 weak spot of the defense, you know, being able to stop the run. But we, we saw some pretty good run fits against Stanford. It was better, not perfect, but better. And I think for me, if this defense can fit the run at a decent clip, that's going to be able to, that's what's going to take this defense from like a, you know, an average defense to a really good defense because they've already gotten the pressure, they've got the corners, safeties are getting better. They just got to be able to stop the run. Yeah, a lot of. A lot of that rusty yardage has been kind of on those, you know, third down situations. You know, some of that has been on, you know, quarterback scrambles. Obviously we watched what Diego Pavia did in the Vanderbilt game would just consistently getting those third downs on like 8 or 10 yard gains. And I think that's really been kind of our Achilles heel is you just the inability to sometimes get off the field on those money downs with a quarterback scramble or or with one of those plays that you're just kind of not necessarily expecting and and get burned and and dinged a little bit there with Tally. Go ahead.

14:34 I know you're about to say something there. No, you good. I was just going to say, I seen somebody put in essay, they start bringing Spencer off the edge. I said, hey, if we can get him to start getting his quarterback to the ground when he get there, then Zachsburg is really going to be back. It's going to be up, baby. I mean, they said it today when they were talking in the in the press. It's like, you know, we're we're really up there in terms of sacks and, and we could be a whole lot better than we are if if if we finished a couple of those where we were home, you know, a couple of those in against the Miami game. I mean, that was Stanford. If you finish a couple of those and, you know, you probably don't have to come down to a Hail Mary there at the end. So, you know, it's it's definitely back. And and like I said, if you do a couple more things, clean up a little bit of technique there, you you might even be even better.

Yeah, definitely. 100% and again it was probably mentioned it like not only would we be leading the country, we would be well ahead of people in the country if you took those finished sacks it we'd probably be up five to six and we've missed a lot. So Kevin, what's happening tonight? And again, I'm going to keep putting this up, if you only seen it, 1999. Hit the YouTube, hit that subscribe button, drop a night 1999 on a video on YouTube there. One of this week, next week or the next week, anything before we will not accept. All right, so real quick, we wanted to do some mid season awards and we're going to start with the MVP and I I don't think I don't think anybody else is going to detest this.

16:09 Our MVP is basically 2. Yep. Any disagreements? The. Only, the only case you can make against him is APR, that that's you. You could. That's the only other case I think you can make. But yeah, I mean Tooten has done everything that you could want from a running back position and more. All right, Sheldon, you said you were holding it. What do you do out on Tooten? Yeah, he was my MVP too. And, and I talked about this in the piece, you know, yards per carry. He's only 86. I think this is sometimes where you got to kind of watch the film and sort of put your your thinking goggles on. He's obviously doing everything he's doing behind a, you know, a fairly limited online and there's a few ways we can look at that. He's forced 33 missed tackles this year, which is 14th most in the country.

16:54 He ranks top 20 in elusiveness on PFF, which basically grades how well you run independent of blocking. And he's top ten in breakaway yards, so 15 plus carries. So I think on the occasions that he's gone to the second level, he's been extremely explosive. And and one set also that I found is that in terms of yards before contact, tech ranks 108th on average yards per rush before contact after contact the 12th. So that's a pretty massive gap. And I think what it shows is that if this online was able to open up more holes to them on a on a more consistent basis, this would be this would be a crazy, crazy good run game. So I think I think Tune is just tremendously talented. He was certainly one of the more dynamic backs in recent tech history.

17:35 I know there's been so many good ones and certainly before my time so I can't come in there, but he's he's definitely up there. So you put you put Tootin behind that 2020 offensive line. What's he doing? I mean, I will say I think it was a little bit different schematically, like that was more of a zone, zone line. So I don't know how the pieces would match. But yeah, if you put him behind a really good O line, he would be, I mean, he'd be putting up, you know, Lee sucks numbers like it's it would be crazy. Yeah, I mean, look at him when you talked about the second level, you talked about after that first, that first missed tackle. He does remind me a lot of Herbert in the way he finishes runs after that first broken tackle or once he gets to that lane on the outside, like he runs hard.

18:21 But he does have that breakaway where you know he's not the fastest 40 wise, but he knows the angles to take and he gets where he needs to be. 100% All right, well, let's move on because we got to move on. We got a lot of stuff to cover tonight and and and I got a feeling this is going to probably vary, but I'm going to kick it to tally first tally all the players. Who, in your opinion, is the most improved player on the tech team up to this point? Most improved player, I don't know, man. I probably would have to go with Wilfred Penne. He has come in and done a great job on the defensive line.

19:01 You know, we've got some people who we expected to do some some good stuff coming into this season. APR you know, Peebles, you know, even Fuga and Piney was just kind of a guy that was there, but he's actually came in and made a difference. Somebody put Woodson in there. I would have said Woodson, but I think Woodson is more of a breakout kind of player than a improved player because Woodson, we didn't get to see a whole whole bunch of them last year. But I expect Woodson to be a really good player, but he's more of a breakout player than a improved player to me.

19:42 So I'm going to go with Penne, just kind of help him with that defensive line. Ron Sigler. Most Phillips and to me it's it's close between him and Penne. If you especially we look at the defensive side and I think I go with most just because we needed it, especially when Strowman went down. His play hasn't been perfect. It, it's been inconsistent at times, but seeing where he was last year and seeing kind of how he started the season and the steps he's taken since then, I think we're starting to see that consistency ratchet up and up and up every week. And that's good. That's important because that position, we're so young at that position until Stroman's back in the lineup.

20:25 And you know, we, we may not, we may not see him back this year at this point. So him taking those steps has been very important for us. Sean, what about you? I went with Moses as well. I think he's improved tremendously. Even just, you know, watching the tape, but looking at numbers too, his PFF grade is up by 14 points. His coverage grade when targeted is down like crazy. So I, I think he's been a really stabilizing presence in the in the secondary. Nice. And I'm going to go with this. Me and James in the chat here are agreeing. I think Xavier Chaplin, he is becoming the anchor on that left side. It's becoming to a point you don't worry about him anymore, right?

21:05 It's like he's going to go out there, he's going to be good in the run blocks. Just a few weeks ago, Shelton brought up on the program. He was the best offensive lineman graded out in the country in PFF, the best one week. That's 132 teams. That's how many lineman is that 600 plus lineman? And he graded the best and it shows his maturation because he was OK last year. And to me, he has went from OK to being above average just about every category. So that's the most improved player. Now, the next one I like, I did a little spin on it here because we got our MVP. You know, we got to keep tuning rolling. We got to improve, guys.

21:48 We hope to see more out of Wilford, Most and Xavier. But what about this? What is the most improved player? What player must improve the back half of the season? Brian Siegel's laughing, so I'm gonna let him go first. What is the must improve? Must improve. I mean, it's, it's the same guy it's been for the last 2-3 years, man, It's Parker Clements. And you know, I hate to rag on the guy, but at this point, when we look at our ability to just drop back in obvious passing situations, he isn't he is a liability at right tackle. And if he can improve marginally, I think that really puts us in a in a good position down the stretch, especially when we go against teams at the latter half of this schedule like Clemson.

22:37 And no disrespect to them, but defensively, I mean, UVA to a point, there's going to be people that are going to come after Kyron in the passing game. We got to be ready for that. Tally. So I'll go a little bit of a, a different route with this because I don't think that somebody's name that was just called needs to be on the field anyway. We kind of talked about it earlier, but some of the lineman that we have. And again, I, I get it, you know, at the point you, you just feel you got to have a veteran out there. So it is what it is. But I'm going to go with I'm going to go with Kyron. I'm going to go with Kyron Must improve. Not saying that he is so bad, but I know that we know that he has a a higher cylinder.

23:23 What we started the season and I'm just judging by what the season is from the beginning throw those first three games in there looked very uncomfortable, probably mainly because of the line, but it's the same line that he had against Miami. It's the same line he had against for the most part against Stanford. And you can see that he's getting comfortable and he's getting back to his old self. He's just doing Chiron things. So I think if he continues to improve the, the, I mean, the Sky's the limit. All of the games that are in front of us, we're just taking it one game at a time. But all of the games in front of us are winnable games. All of games that he can take control of. He has to be the MVP for the rest of the season for us to do what we need to do to get to Charlotte. So I'm going to say Kyra here.

24:13 Sheldon. I'm going Dorian Strong. I think he's been pretty underwhelming this year. His coverage grade is at a career low. You know, he's been gotten beat a few times and his friend defence grade has also been, you know, pretty, pretty poor. So I think he's a more talented player than what he's what he's shown so far. I just think for whatever reason, he's kind of aggressive here. And if he can get to playing that peak strong level that we're accustomed to, you know, you combine the the pass rides with those lockdown corners. I mean, that's another thing that's kind of keeping this defense from achieving their their maximum ceiling all. Right. And I'm going to throw kind of a, I don't know if you want to call it a breaking pitch, a curveball, but I need Malachi Thomas to be the most improved player because we are leaning on Basil Tooting. We are leaning on Basil Tooting so much that if Malachi can just come in, get 4 1/2 a carry, pop the line, fall forward, we got to take a little pressure off the MVP, just a little pressure. And up to this point, he's only got 23 carries. So, and maybe this is more on the kosher to say, listen, you've got to be willing to give him carries because we know PJ Prolu, he's out.

25:20 He's probably not coming back. Stroman's probably not coming back. So those two rooms, like the guys who are in those two rooms, they're there a lot of other guys coming back healthy hopefully this week. So that's a good thing. So there it is. I wasn't able to really break it in, break into journalism, Ended up starting a fan podcast in 2022, which we kind of parlayed into making a website last year, Eagles daily, Eagles daily.com. And that really kind of took off in its own right. And then this past, this past winter, yeah, this past winter, I ended up getting a, a contract with the Belief Network. So that started out just basketball. And then it rolled over into this summer where we were able to rebrand, start talking football as well as hoop because, you know, the hoop team is, you know, looking a little dreadful this year.

Well, Brett, good to thank you for joining us and good to hear that you kind of are in the space of the college football world with Boston College and obviously, you know, you're on.

31:11 You got to give us some info about your BC Eagles. And let's start on the offensive side of the ball. You head coach to me Will longing your OC, but I got a feeling it's a heavy Bill O'Brien case from what you've seen so far this year, what are they bringing to the table just offensively in general? So it's, it has been a little madding, especially the past couple weeks. So really the story for BC, the first, you know, whether it was Florida State, Michigan State, a little bit, a little bit of Western Kentucky, but really like the they've abandoned the run game. Like where they've been most successful was running the football using their quarterback Tommy Castellanos, you know, as a runner, as a playmaker and not really having the emphasis as on him as a passer.

32:02 And that's kind of where they've kind of veered away from. You know, it's specifically last week. I think Tommy threw the ball 25 to 30 times last week, which is, you know, he he's a good quarterback, but I would say like as a passer, not a great quarterback. Being a gunslinger is not his strong suit. It hasn't been in either season that he's been here. So it has been a little bit worrisome where it's kind of like, you know, where is this run game going to? Especially against Virginia last week, they were 14 nothing. They were moving the ball. So it wasn't as if, you know, BC was getting stuffed in the run game and they had to abandon it and become one-dimensional on offense.

32:43 So the play calling has been, it's I, I would say it's been very suspect at times, especially with Will Lonning. I think a lot of people are a little frustrated with it. And, you know, there has been talks that Bill O'Brien is going to be kind of, you know, sticking his hands in the proverbial pot a little bit more going forward, which, you know, I wouldn't be upset about it all. Yeah. And I mean, I know historically Bill O'Brien has definitely been kind of a run first guy. So it's going to be interesting to see if, you know, he does start dipping his toes back in there a little bit. And whether or not you see some of that that percentage kind of go in your favor. I know you know, a game like Missouri, I think, you know, Castellanos threw I think like 38 times. That's probably even though we had a pretty good game overall there.

33:27 That's probably not what you want to see. No. And especially with with that game, it really shows you that when he throws the ball deep down field and really looks to stretch the field, he struggles. Even he did it against you guys last year at home in the first couple series of the game when he had a couple picks in the first quarter. When he's looking to really go over the top, he's not as successful. He's a lot more better, you know, in the short intermediate routes. They've really been utilizing Tray, Sean Ward out of the backfield on wheel routes from the running back position. And that's been a massive success for them. They've kind of gotten away from it. You know, we'll see on, I was about to say Saturday on Thursday, wow, on Thursday, if they kind of look to get back to that to really what works for them. But yeah, you're very spot on with, you know. Kind of 40 throws a game for Tommy is not what you want. What you really want is to take those throws down and get him more designed runs.

34:25 You know, you want to have him touching the ball 40 times, but not not looking to throw at that many. It's, it's just, it's, it's not the type of quarterback he is. Yeah, you still want the offense to run through him, but not in in a in a drop back standpoint where you're slinging it around that much. So you talked a little bit about Tommy. Let's let's just focus on the run game. You got to run through what he does in the run game. Well, and you already talked about Tray, Shawn, Ward, really we, when we looked at the, the stats there, you kind of got 3 backs that that have got some pretty good burn with Robichaud in there. And and, and Richard, you know, which guys are working in the most in the run game and how does Tommy kind of work in there as well? So Tommy really he's more of like an improviser, which it's it's been a little, I don't want to say concerning, but so he missed the Western Kentucky game with an apparent leg injury. So not really sure if he's just been like a little hesitant over the last week to really kind of be creative on the ground or kind of what's going on there.

35:30 But Robin Shaw is more of like a bowling ball. And you know, I know you guys were talking about Bayshaw earlier and you know, it's, it's, it's tough for me to to hear that, especially with how well he's doing because, you know, obviously we know he was originally committed to us, commits to you guys. We end up with Kai Robashaw instead, which was a fine consolation prize, But he's he's not Bayshaw, you know, but I would say Kai Robashaw, he's definitely more of like a bowling ball in between the tackles type of guy. He's a hard runner. Tray, Sean Ward, he's does have hands out of the backfield, which is really worked well within kind of the passing game and really helping them move the ball when they get a little stagnant. And Richard, Turbo Richard, he's Turbo Richard for a reason. He's very fast and he's a true freshman. Was not expected to really get much of any playing time this year.

36:26 Really kind of started, you know, getting carries at least like at an extended clip. And the red bandana game against Michigan State had a touchdown there and he was really the only one who was effective on the ground against Virginia two weeks ago now. So that yeah, I mean, The thing is they do have 3 running backs. I would say all three of their skill sets are different. It's all just kind of depends on like who's got the hot hands on a week to week basis. You know, it's kind of been different on a, you know, from, from game to game. But you know, I think Turbo Richard is, is a name that has been popping up a lot.

37:07 I mean, he was in the practice notes this week, had a real good week of practice. So I would look for him to kind of, you know, really, really look to elevate the run game this week for us. Hey, yeah, real quick question, Brett, I'm, I'm from down here in Alabama, born and raised here and, you know, follow Bill O Brown a lot. And yeah, I'll just say down here, Alabama fans killed that man. I'm talking about. I, I actually thought Bill Lebron's a pretty good offensive coordinator, pretty good coach. So just asking your opinion with him being you guys as head coach. And then I heard you say earlier kind of he would be or you guys will be OK with him dipping his hand kind of in the offense.

37:51 How do y'all feel about him in his coaching style so far? I think it's, it's, it's been a thrill specifically with our last two coaches who, you know, we had Steve Adagio for seven years and they called him 7 when Steve, Steve for a reason. He was a very average mediocre coach. Really didn't ever bring them over the top. You know, I go back to like 2018 when we were seven and two had college game day and then lost the last three games of the season. That was kind of him in a nutshell. And then with with Halfley last year or the past four years, it's, you know, been a lot of positive talk and a lot of, you know, we're going to love our guys. We're going to do this the right way. It just never showed up on the field. You know, a lot of mistakes, a lot of mental mistakes in the the game.

38:42 The game play itself wasn't very fun to watch. So I think coming into this year with Bill O'Brien, there has been a lot of excitement specifically because he is a local guy. You know, he's, he's from Massachusetts, obviously had a great career as an OC for the Patriots. And I think the thing with Bill O'Brien too is like, I think he gets it. I think he gets the BC situation. It's not, you know, you're, it's, it's not just your run of run-of-the-mill FBS, that type of program. There are like a lot of various things that kind of go into it specifically, you know, it's in a pro town. So there really aren't a lot of eyes and exposure on it to begin with. The academics are so high.

39:23 And being in an area like New England, it's not necessarily like a hotbed for, you know, football talent. And I think he gets all that and is really kind of you using his ability to kind of understand the Boston College landscape to his, you know, to his benefit and really kind of get people to rally behind it. And, you know, I know the the fan base has been has been juiced about it thus far. And, you know, if you told us that we were going to be 4 and two, you know, even though, you know, the last last week or two weeks ago, excuse me, hurt, but if you told us we'd be foreign too, I think we'd be, you know, pretty happy about that. So yeah, so I think everyone's satisfied.

40:03 Another question to ask just about that, to kind of build off of that, when you talked about, you know, Boston College being a, you know, kind of a different situation for a college town, a college program. A couple of things I know about Boston College. I don't follow Boston College I'm sure as much as you do, but they always have some crazy last names like Castellanos. I know that. And they always have a tight end wearing a cowboy collar and getting a lot of yards on Virginia Tech. So do y'all have a tight end this year that we need to be worried about? He's usually white. He's usually like 6-7. He's usually big and he's usually crazy. Last name, cowboy collar dude.

40:49 We got to worry about that. You don't have to worry about, you don't have to worry about a white tight end. We have a guy named Tamari Morales is like a mouthful to get that out transfer from I want to he was at UNC last year and he had they have been working him into the offense on a week to week basis a lot more. And then we also got a guy Jeremiah Franklin, both guys are they're they're not high volume guys. I wouldn't expect them to kill you in the red zone. Morales is, you know, really who comes to play and no horse call us to speak of, you know, so I don't think you have to. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

41:35 I think I when I when he, when he said that the first guy, I thought it was Sean Ryan when he literally leaked over a Syracuse player back in like 2003 or something with the horse collar. So yeah, but no. Well, let's flip to this. We're going to stay on the offense for a couple more questions here and I and I want to talk about looking through the data, statistics logs, watching some of your game. Lewis Bond jumps out. He's doubled up on receptions from he's the leading receiver. He's doubled up on yards, couple touchdowns. What does he bring to the table and where does he line up? What do you like about him as from ABC perspective? I think biggest thing about him is just his overall confidence. I remember last year in the press conference, he talked about how there's no one in the country that could bring him down one-on-one in open field, which, you know, it's happened. So obviously people can, but I just love his demeanor and his just confidence and bullish attitude. The thing with him too is he understands route running like I think few people actually do.

42:42 Like he actually uses his shoulders in order to kind of get get a cornerback to kind of shift and then he moves. So it's like little things like that that he does. He really is just like a dog on all three levels. Like he's he's good in the short game. He's good across the middle. He's good deep. Like he just he's he just has these shorthands. And I think the thing with him, it's not that he's a burner and he's like super fast, but his after the catch ability to get separation on the secondary is remarkable. You know, he did it with a game-winning touchdown against Michigan State a couple weeks ago. And he does it time to time again.

43:23 But yeah, it's just he, he is a he's, he's got, he's got a finesse to him, but he also has just like a sheer toughness. Like, he's not afraid to go up and get the ball or go across the middle and get it. And you know, he's been doing it for two years now. And you know, he's an, and it's it's Tommy's. It's him and Castellanos. They're roommates, so they, they have a, you know, a rapport like any other. So, you know, he, if anyone's going to, you know, get you guys on Thursday, it's absolutely without a doubt going to be him. Yeah. And you know, when we look at a a A-Team like Boston College, you know, Virginia Tech historically, you know, we're, we're one of the the teams that's going to argue with you about DBU. You can make the case that Boston College could be, could make an argument for offensive line. You talk a little bit about the offensive line, what they do well, and maybe you know some things they don't do so well. I think the offensive line is one of the more sound groups in or on for, you know, especially like position wise. It all starts right up the front through Kendall. He's been, I believe he got snubbed for AC any sort of ACC accolades last year.

44:40 I would say he's one of the better, if not a top three center in ACC along with Jude Boundary, who's our left tackle. There's just they they have, they have size and mobility, which is something that they had lacked the past couple years. But I've really kind of got back to I think especially like in their recruiting. But yeah, it's, it's, it's something that they're running game. They're as as the running game. The offensive line as a cohesive unit has been phenomenal. I think their past, the past game has been a little bit a suspect, which has led to, you know, Tommy having to really kind of rush around in the pocket and rush outside the pocket.

45:27 And it caused, you know, quite a few turnovers and inopportune moments. So I think if Virginia Tech is really going to find, find a way to, you know, kind of expose the BC offensive line, it's going to be, you know, as as when we're passing the ball as opposed to running the ball. Because I would say, you know, in the trenches, BC has been phenomenal about being able to get positive net games from a rushing attack, you know, this year. And it's it's something that, you know, if, if they can come together, you know, in the passing game, then it'll it's it's a strong group. But I would say that's like they're one kind of, I don't want to even say weakness, but you know, there is some some room for you guys to kind of get through on them. Are you kind of looking at early down success being kind of a big key for that BC offense?

46:20 And stuff, Yeah, yeah. Because especially like you look at you look at the weather, whether it was the Florida State game, the first half of the Missouri game, the Michigan State game and the first half of the UVA game, a lot of long drives, a lot of long drives. You know, we are really, you know, not only controlling, controlling the ball, keeping our defense, you know, off the field, you know, but running the ball successfully. That's where BC has been most successful. And that's something that, you know, and you see it when they kind of get away from that and they start passing the ball on, on early downs, get the incompletions, get the three and outs, things like that.

47:02 But yeah, I mean, if you, if you look at a lot of their, a lot of their touchdown drives in the first half, it's a lot of 8/10/12 play drives, you know, and I, I think that even the opening drive of the UVA game was like 9 or 10 plays in itself. So that's that's kind of been where they found the most success is controlling the ball, controlling the clock, you know, eating up time and, you know, kind of methodically moving the ball down the field, specifically through the ground too. All right, duly noted on those. And with that, we'll close up the offensive segment and we're going to flip over to defense. And our man Shelton has a couple questions and a couple things he wants to talk to you about. Brett on the D line.

47:44 Yeah. So, Brett, it looks to me like you guys have done a pretty good job of limiting the run game. I think you're 27th in yards per rush allowed and 15th in the country in success rate allowed on defense in terms of stopping the run. Talk about the front 7 and and what why you think they've done a good job of preventing the big runs. I mean, so it really starts right in the middle. Cam Horsley and George Brooks as our defensive tackles have just been absolutely phenomenal. George Brooks was a transfer from Michigan last year and he had his moments, but you know, it was really taking it like to another level this year and being able to kind of stuff up the middle, you know, and it and it all comes back to the linchpin of the entire defense, Donovan Azaraku.

48:35 He was great in 22 was almost non existent last year. I think he had three sacks all season and I believe all three of them came in one game. So really struggled last year and I think he, I mean, he, if he doesn't lead the country in Sachs, he did at one point and he has just been absolutely phenomenal for us. So it's just, you know, it's, it's it all comes down to it all comes down to really the defensive line play in general and just really how they've been able to kind of grow this year because I we're still really only rushing 4. You know, you really won't see us blitz much from like the linebacker position.

49:23 But that kind of comes back to Tim Lewis's philosophy is of kind of bend, don't break. We have one of the best red zone defenses in the country this year because we're really not giving up a lot of touchdowns, a lot of field goals. And that's kind of been the philosophy of, you know, really relying on the secondary, you know, to make the plays, especially when we're in the red zone. But you. Know you you were right Brett 5 allow touchdowns in the red zone this year yeah on 18 trips that's pretty that's pretty damn impressive in my. Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, a lot of I. Was gonna, yeah, I was going to ask about that because I, I would just look it up. So for for those curious, Boston College ranks 6 in the country and fewest points per possession allowed in the red zone, even though they they've given up a fair share of their red zone drives.

50:11 It's just when they get inside of 20, you are not going to score against them. So, Ben, but don't break like you said. Great to hear one I was going to say. Go ahead. I'm sorry. I was going to ask more about Donovan. I mean, you know, because he is second in the country. At one point he was leading. He is second in the country. OK, second. Yeah, second APR fist. So anyway, Thursday night there are two guys who are absolutely tearing it up from the in position in this game. If you watch, if you're out there and you're not ABC fan, you're not a tech fan, watch this game for both defensive ends because these guys probably will be playing on Sundays in the next few years some sort of way. But what I want to ask about Donovan, is there any weakness to his game?

50:56 Obviously that tells you there's a motor there, there's probably some bend. He's probably got some sort of what what are his moves you're going to see from him? He's extremely fast, a little bit undersized. So especially when he goes up against kind of like shiftier type of lineman, you can neutralize him a bit, but but the way he is able to kind of use his undersize against like big D tackles is his is his speed coming off the edge really just kind of like ripping through people. But yeah, I mean, there it's it's been amazing to watch.

51:37 There really hasn't been much of like a weakness at least like you haven't seen it this year yet, unfortunately, you know, and hopefully that trend for us continues on Thursday because he has just been an absolute force. You know, even clutch play after clutch play, even against Washington, KY in the game that we squeaked out, had the amazing forced fumble in order to get us the ball back to score the touchdown to to beat them. So it's just it, it really all all starts with him and that's where our success comes from. And he's just he's, he's very fast. Like you watch you watch him from a defensive end position and you notice the speed. Can you please tell him not to embarrass #70 on our day?

52:25 Hey, we had, we had to say it. We had to say it, I mean. I'll throw a damn and. That's. Right. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Put in a good word for US. Line up on the other side. 60. 565 is your man. Yeah, and. And looking at that, I mean, you know, it looks like at least from a offensive line versus defensive line perspective in the passing game, it's kind of strong on weak, strong on weak. You know, we got some both defensive lines that can really get after the passer and some offensive lines at least from a passport perspective with some question marks. So I think that's probably going to be one of the things we want to watch heading into Thursday. One thing that concerns me, especially from like a defensive standpoint, is our top cornerback Amari Jackson's out for the season. I believe he tore his ACL.

53:14 So, you know, that's that's a tough hit for us. And he's been so, so locked down all freaking season for us. So, you know, we'll see. And you know, hopefully you guys don't expose the replacement too badly. Yeah. And we were going to talk about that next. So I'm glad you brought it up. Yeah. That that I think word just came in today that that is. Going to be season I. Think so. That's that, that that's tough for you guys and you know, obviously with, you know, offensive, offensive line, especially in pass for being a little bit of our weakness, having a maybe some of those routes coming open a little bit quicker might might help with that front. So I think that's going to be something that we got to watch heading to Thursday.

53:59 But I don't want to take any way thing away from the rest of your secondary because you guys, even without, even without him there, you guys still have forced 9 interceptions this season in six games. Even without Amari Jackson there, Who else kind of pops to you on the secondary? Obviously you mentioned Amari's our lockdown guy, but you don't get 10 interceptions by having one guy and then the rest are scrubs. So there's got to be at least one more guy you like in that secondary. Yeah, Kate, KP Price and Max Tucker, who are both safeties for us, have just been phenomenal. I believe Max Tucker was the one who had the game ceiling interception in the red bandana game.

54:42 So they the, the thing that I do like about them too, is they really do pick their spots when they go for the interception. So it's not like they're just ball Hawks who are, you know, prone to get burned either. They have, they have been able to play, you know, very sound, sound coverage and, you know, just somehow the ball's been finding them. Carrie Johnson, he's probably the most famous for probably the most egregious targeting play of all time. When he hit the guy against Pit last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a great meme for a little bit. It's probably the highlight of of our season, honestly. And then everything he had, he had a pretty, pretty shaky one couple weeks ago.

55:26 So he he can be prone to kind of the bonehead plays, you know, we'll see if if he can stay out of trouble. But you know, in terms of in terms of our safety position, KP Price and Max Tucker have been absolutely nails and lights out. So those are those are two guys I would keep an eye on on Thursday as well and especially in the secondary with, you know, Amara Jackson out. Very nice. Sheldon, You said you had one more thing you needed to ask Brett tonight. Yeah. So this is kind of out of curiosity, You mentioned the local New England high school recruiting base. Obviously, BC has kind of fallen some hard times. And you know, if you look at programs across the country, one of the biggest predictors of success is proximity to talent.

56:11 We know that New England's not exactly a hotbed of recruiting, but you know, Pennsylvania is the state that's produced some good players. You know, New Jersey's produced a handful of good players. For you, what is B CS recruiting strategy in terms of geography? Like how do, how do you see them kind of attacking recruiting and, and maybe how does Bill O'Brien kind of, I guess, go about rebuilding this program, you know, kind of from where it was a few years ago? Yeah. I mean, he, I think he's putting more of an emphasis on looking to get local recruits, especially, you know, the top, the top four or five from Massachusetts or Connecticut. Like you said, New Jersey, NJ is a big one. I think with Shiano, with Greg Schiano coming back to Rutgers, it has created a little bit more of an issue because that was a pretty good pipeline for us, you know, for a while prior to that. But yeah, he has kind of talked about, you know, keeping the local guys home, you know, and obviously it's not an abundance as, you know, maybe, you know, schools down South might be able to see.

57:13 But, you know, really focusing on that. And, you know, kind of like you said, whether it's PA or New Jersey or, you know, they they have found a bit of success, you know, kind of in the Florida area. Obviously that's where they flowers came from. So never, never, never going to complain about that. But yeah, I think for the most part, like you said, kind of the proximity to home and, you know, the regional and, you know, really keeping the kids, keeping the kids home that, you know, our our prize picks for you and I, I believe, I believe they locked up already the top three kids from Massachusetts for next year. So, you know, it's definitely, definitely helping and you know, obviously with the with the transfer portal and you know, kind of all that stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if they really start to utilize that next year. Bill O'Brien hasn't there's there's not a player on this roster right now that Bill Bill O'Brien brought in himself, you know, because, you know, halfway left so late after, you know, the transfer portal and all the recruiting. So he none of these none of these guys are his. So I think next year it's going to be very interesting to see, you know, what kind of players that he does look to bring in this type of personnel he's going to look to, you know, set out for.

58:28 So, you know, I think next you're seeing him use kind of Jeff Haffley's toys this year. Next year you're going to really start to see more of his imprint, you know, as to like what his vision for Boston College football is going to be. Yeah, and and you really know that he has at least a good idea of the lay of the land in Pennsylvania, so he does. Know yeah that's how that. Looks like so. Absolutely. I didn't even think about that. Absolutely. Yeah. So that that's something that to keep an eye on heading into probably next cycle, especially when you look at, you know, JUCO pickups and transfer portal. All righty till we get Castellanos legs. Castellanos if y'all don't recall 1000 yard rusher last year. Not as much this year, but obviously banged up with an ankle injury. So just because those stats don't look great this year, it's in that boy, it's in Tommy Castellano.

So I'm going to I'm going to recite some statue guys here. If you guys are ready, let's go. So since 1992, I think that was when Thursday Night Football first started as regular program. I could be wrong but I believe that is the case. Virgin Tech all time 24 wins on Thursday Night Football in the regular season. That is tied for the most of the time with Utah. Now Utah has played a few cream puffs. Virgin Tech has traditionally played some pretty solid opponents on Thursday night. So if you just look at FCSFBS teams, the Hokies have nineteen wins against on Thursday night, which is most all time. They've also played 36 games.

1:02:17 Second link to Georgia Tech and win percentage wise, they're ranked 7th among teams with at least 20 games played on Thursday night. Obviously, this was a staple of the program back in the Beamer days. He used it for recruiting to enhance the visibility of the program and he was in his bag back in the day at 11 straight Thursday night games from 1998 to 2005, although they are just one and three in the last four. So trying to turn around a little bit. They did beat Circus last year, first Thursday night wins since 2016. So it's been a staple of the program for decades. I think Tech, you know, it needs to kind of reclaim it as their own. Obviously with the NFL playing on Thursday nights, it's kind of lost some magic that had back in the old days. But I still think this is a big opportunity for Tech to kind of showcase themselves on the national stage and say, hey, this is our night, so go get that win. Yep, to that point, Syracuse game last year with an opposing NFL game, it went like 1.6 million viewers, which that's nothing to sneeze out on a Thursday opposing versus the NFL.

If I'm sure everybody that is in the chat watching live wherever you are there, it's a it's an opportunity still for the school. Sports Center is going to be live on campus. You know, Virginia Tech made Thursday Night Football what it is, or at least what it was before the NFL kind of stepped in there. So it kind of put Thursday Night Football on the map and it helped put Virginia Tech on the map in in that same token. So to his point, embrace it, reclaim it. Love that.

Get the hell off the field when you have a quarterback that can do things with their legs. So I think Tennessee is going to be ready. Like, Alabama has a big target on them because it's kind of like the shark Smith blood in the water. And my Texas guy just got back from Japan and said Konichiwa, he he just says that they're the best team in the nation and they're going to win.
