Got Sunday night football going on, and we had a little bit of a rough Friday night. Is that fair to say, little bit of a rough ride that is debts, fair to say it's more than fair to say ruff is a nice term to use for what happened Friday night. I've seen I've seen shit games that might have been. One of the top five were shit games.

I was bad but you well, my Colts took care of business on Thursday night, so I didn't have to worry too much about the NFL side of things. Unfortunately, we all saw at the Hokies ID on Friday night to follow it up. So, you know, we're still feeling the effects of that one. And we're going to go over quite a few things about that game tonight, fellas. It was, it was one of those that From the first drive.

You know, we find out, you know, that your code is back with their missing some pieces. You know, we find out about Tray which we're going to get into about the press conference and what Pete Moore said today, because that's a hot-button fucking topic right now. But let's start with the One, good piece. He one. Good piece on the offensive side of the ball. somehow Rahim and Malachi, both averaged over five yards, a carry With I think the entire Boston College team in the Box.

I digitally but once Braxton went down, they knew we were running the ball and, you know, we were still able to more or less Keep the running game going, even if it was getting stifled, once we get into an area where, you know, they had to go up a little bit, we were still moving the ball, somewhat effectively on the running game. It just, it wasn't something that we could go to enough to get first downs consistently because of the loaded boxes. It's it's frustrating because if you had any semblance of a passing game to pair, with what they've been Doing, you know, we saw it especially against Georgia Tech which I know that still Georgia Tech, but if you can do anything with the passing game, you know, this running game can open up a little bit.

4:26 But you know, without that threat I mean it was, it was tough going. It was very outgoing and you know, only what we only had 12 first downs in the entire game 12. We had a couple drives where we had six and eight plays and we've got 18 and 24 yards, That is pitiful and I tell you total passing yard was 73. But you not tell me Brian. Was there? Like the pit of despair of? We're not waiting another. We might not be do we might not be view? Yeah I've officially hit that when I when I saw what they were doing and I saw what we were unable to do and I mean, I know this is Boston College, they have a good Front six.

5:17 Good overall defense. Yeah. But they're not Elite by any stretch of the imagination. Solid, there's thought, you know, Miami's probably more athletic. Probably less sound. You know, we're still going to see two pretty bad defense has coming up with Duke and especially with UVA it to close it out. But if we can't move the ball effectively, we're going to struggle in all three of these contests. And it was evident especially once Braxton went down, but it was evident from the jump, like we didn't look like without tray. We didn't look like we had any anything that was a threat to them in the passing game. Yeah.

And it literally took almost to the end of the first half to get a pass complete in those three, passing yards. Yes, 33. And what, what's, what's the old Bob? You know, you know baby gets banged up, its the ribs, you can tell it.

But it's, it's this so close to the vest game that this staff plays to the detriment of everything, how folks view them, how folks embrace the program. I mean, there's just so many missed opportunities with the, the pr in the messaging that the fans get. We'll get there, we'll get there but it's just you know, the messaging is bad, you know, the messaging is bad.

I think, Knox has a slightly better armed than Braxton. He's not he's got a stronger arm yes'm not near the athleticism. Not Nearly the worry about the back end, if they're breaks, but that we come in and the first pass, he completes first of all, they ran a freaking read option to the short side for him. And he realizes, he's four yards behind. I think Caleb Smith the slightly down field. He just chucked it over shit. That's the first pass.

Oh, it was Dreadful. I mean, 3 of 12. I mean yeah, we were right at we were essentially right into their wheelhouse of what they do on third down as a. They're solid top 25, 30 defense in every aspect. They're not great at one thing, but yeah, it was, it was absolutely terrible.

At least the last two weeks we could say, we looked like a semblance of a team, but, you know, your quarterback goes out and it's what we talked about. It's what we talked about. There's things that you cannot do with Knox. There's things you can't do with him and there's things that you can't make a couple. So as you've said, Brian numerous times, would you say about BB? I mean, BB has been the reason that our offense is moved, but also the reason our offense can't get better, He any he puts a ceiling on the offense but he also keeps the floor somewhat high.

Yeah, we he had more touchdowns in the first half than we had yards throwing and we hard Gorge rowing for. And so it's beginner coming. But it was more of a detriment to the team and he's went somewhere with heiple hypos always coaches.

If they go in there and there are five and five and six they're going to blow the doors off the Mandy. There's not even a doubt about that but it's you see how he passes in the runs especially the downfield shots. And we don't we don't have that at all and you know, I mean, we'll say it, I mean that offense is a better offense in terms of steam and it fits his skill set very well. And and the offense here was a fairly good match for his skill set.

15:04 So I mean, it's not so much like it's great that he's blowing up there and and I'm glad that he's doing all that but When we look at it, if he'd have been here, I think we would have been we're a better team with him than we are without him. And I think and I think and I think that's aside from scheme, I know he's in a better situation in terms of having a little bit higher caliber players around him will add it to the fact you've got better better scheme overall better better coaching this just say that better. Yeah Josh heupel is doing more with the Tennessee recruits that Pruitt brought in improves doing.

Well, they're probably about two cycles worth of defensive Talent away from making making a press in the East, not saying that they're going to match Georgia, but they'll be right there in the conversation of that next tier in.

The most, you can extend this game is too. Six. It's six minutes. You don't have enough time to.

Yeah, it was something that I didn't think like this was kind of a low point for me. And this is this is classic Fuente though. When we talk about some of the weird fourth quarter choices, some of the, the conservativeness, when you get a lead, like, all of this is from the classic Fuente Playbook like I just don't get being that conservative down two touchdowns, nope, it just, it baffles me. It was one of the most head-scratching decisions that Fuente is made in his entire time at Virginia Tech and he's made some big ones, also nothing but this one did it just It didn't make sense.

We're we, he said to the team essentially on both sides of the ball. We can't win this game. Y'all are not good enough to win this game. I am not good enough to win this game. That's what it was. That's exactly what it was. It's irritating because in that situation, you have nothing to lose. If you go forward and you miss it, the probabilities was probably about eight to ten percent, you could do it. So very, very small that you could actually pull and tie the game back up.

21:22 Yep. So well, the thing is that if you end up Driving the field and you get a touchdown there. You haven't wasted the clock of kicking the ball, back to him. You haven't wasted your time out. So you can still have two timeouts by the time you go for your onside kick and if you don't get the onside kick, you can still have a chance to get the ball back, and we'll tie it up true. Once you kick that there, at least running what a minute, two minutes off that their least running two minutes off that, but even if you don't even if you kicking you hold perfectly, It which we have seen already probably wasn't going to happen, even if you stop them, and burn two timeouts. Been weeks, six weeks, six weeks? Yeah, six weeks. So the combination of those two things are probably what's what held him back. He avoids not one but two potential sacks and gets up the field for a 10-plus yard game. Yeah and and if you ask me and this is me this offense wasn't going to change whoever was out there. But if you put it on a scale of 1 to 100, even an injured, your kovich is probably somewhere between and 80 and 90 versus we're gonna sell and Moorhead will be below that.

Like he normally is and like I said, I think that's probably due to not being able to get at least feel comfortable with the grippy at, on the football. And like I said, probably just still knocking off some Rust with the timing and everything with his receivers, but there definitely wasn't the zip on the ball when he was throwing it down the field. Like we're used to still, was better than good. Get down the field then gross L had been on the whole the last six weeks but you probably probably lost a little bit in terms of arm strength, compared to what you have got with Moorhead, but you probably roll with the more seasoned player at that point.

Yeah. And you talk about the arm strength and you think about, let's think about two of the big plays that early in the game. It gave me the feeling that, you know, we're not going to win this game. It's just you have those breaks. Let's talk about Dorian strong, he rolled out, and he tried to throw the ball, and he's short of the ball and Dorian just picked it.

I sat there and said they had a good drive. Going. Try to roll pocket, throw you left it. A little short, young guy came up, picked it. And there are some people on the timeline, there were screaming like when I saw him running around like that looking for something I was just screaming. Go down, go down. There's nothing there he didn't they fumble? They score off that with actually a jerk covid run. Yeah.

Probably could have knocked it towards the ground a little bit more but bang-bang play. Their tipped is like eight yards back like what? Like yeah like eight or nine yards back and you know winner gets the the reception there ends up. Being a first down, you know, you think you're potentially getting off the field again and then all of a sudden you're looking at another first down for the other team and those are two. That's the to play those like the are this this unit snake been denied that they can't do anything, right? Even when they do right, they do wrong. And then on that one to Winter, he doesn't even catch it and get the first down.

Ryan, how does a secondary have to feel when they we've got to pick. We stopped them on Third and long with a great pasta flexion. And they essentially got 10 points out of it. Yeah. Hi, like how do you even stay in the mindset? That How do you even stay in the game after that happens in the first 20 minutes of it? Yeah, is definitely disheartening the fact that they kept coming back and you know still hell the pass game more or less in check for most of the game. Yeah, they weren't able to do a ton down the field even when they took shots, obviously they were purposefully leaning on their running game.

35:35 Most of the time, especially once they got that big early lead, but You know, it was kind of it was kind of hard that even when they were making plays, you know, they've it's still ended up working out for the offense, so that was frustrating early on and I think some of that frustration carried over. But, you know, when we look at the running game, that's where that's where things started to fall apart for the defense d-line, and linebackers were getting kind of pushed around by that offensive line Lindstrom was a wasn't Animal inside their get into this second level on Dax, most of the night, it was wasn't pretty dead Dax and Tisdale were finding themselves out of position a lot. It kind of see it was more of that 2020 style. Shit rearing its head.

36:34 Here you go. It looked as close to 2020 defense as I've seen. Seen this year and that was disheartening and it's not that they went out there and they gave up a ton of points. The they're still doing a freely and fairly decent job of bending and not breaking, but you got to get a team like that off the field more than you did you. Absolutely. And that's the problem is, that they extended so many drives. There were so many 10 and 12, Play drives, and then just methodically, moving the ball down, field it, and then you can't do that when A thin team especially up front and I mean you're going to wear yourself down so fast and that's what happened.

37:17 I know. And you know Garland over 130 carries he looked like he was like under force. It was the second worst yards per carry production game since Temple, but he still went over 100. They went to 34 is a teams. The sad part is for us. At least it's the this was the death by a Thousand Cuts that you always talk about. They had no gains over 20. No running gains over 20 yards. But you know what they had and you already mentioned it kind of talking about. They just kept leaning and just kept long extending Drive. 22 first downs. 22 in 50% on third down and fourth down.

38:00 So you know every other time we had a chance to get him off the field, we couldn't they extended the drives. So in one sense you get pissed the defense like damn you guys. Why don't you make that 25%? On the other hand, you say got them off the field, a lot and they did keep us in this game because they didn't give up big plays because even though they were missing tackles and it was ugly at times, they were still stopping drives at times if the defensive magic imagine if You played sound like a god, like a seven to three games. Yeah, it would have been an ugly ugly. Matt, Bevin we played sound defense by the took the over would have just like, went out back and just hang their head against trees. Like, why did I take over against these Duty? Yeah.

38:49 And and everything we saw on defense, there was nothing egregiously bad. It was just consistently not enough to get off the field. Yeah. And I think That goes back. I mean, some of that's by Design with this Bend, don't break style but that's where Bend don't break style in a game, like this comes back to bite you, right? But because because you're killing your killing the, the the time of possession you're getting killing time of possession, and then your offense can't do anything with it. It's true, but a lot of the times Brian, it was the missed tackles that were happening. You know, instead of being the three are gain, it was the five. Yeah.
