Um, you know, I thought about taking the alma mater, Longwood over Tennessee, but I've watched a lot of that SEC Championship in the SEC games in general, in, Tennessee's on a roll, and Rick Barnes is a damn good coach and he makes run them. He makes runs in March.

I'm more focused on looking at the tech side of the bracket after that magical run through the ACC and seeing how many of those teams in the East they can they can knock out. I feel like it's a pretty good matchup in round one against Texas. Yep. After that you got it got Purdue which I think is going to be. That's a potential matchup could be. It could be a tough one. I think she's in some areas we match up well with With them and in some areas not so much. Right? Yeah, you know, obviously they've got size with the big seven foot plus guy, but as we saw last weekend though, especially on offense, when they're running High, post will keys. even some of the most athletic big men in the country like Williams and the cot could not guard that it couldn't get back on the role.

Well, playing good deed, they don't have a great offense so you know it's good things but it's just going to be a it's a fun tournament. I mean we lost it in 2020. Last year was kind of A minor version in E, Minor version of the tournament because you didn't have full capacity and what happened to BCU essentially losing, which is still in protocols this year. But we haven't seen that flare-up in quite a while in any tournament.

8:21 Now, you know, my team, we had some things changes going on so I had to make sure I got situated with the coaches and going over stuff man. You know because the high school season just ended. So I had to get the know just stuff with personnel and are you stuff, but it's all good. Now I was rushing home. I'm looking for the jump on what you guys. I check you guys out frequently so I'm I'm excited about being on right now, man. We love having you on tonight. I was born at University.

9:16 I was born my mom and dad. So when I was young, Me, it was euphoric, man. It actually means more. Now that is not of the Dust settled that Championship because I think I'd end of the day. It's just special man. Like, with Mike young is building and seeing my God, he's custis who I basically have grown up together when we had Virginia Tech as a special assistant coach and Bruce. My God Bruce Cohen who's been at Texas 1988. They've seen the ups and downs and Bruce was, there were buzzed.

We've had some great moments with softball. We had track and field men's and women's continue to dominate. The golf team is great. I'm not going to lie and tell you. I watch golf or baseball but you know, if it's got the orange, maroon is Hokies. I'm down for it. So it was great night man. I my wife joked about how tech fans were going to really make everybody upset because we are so into our Sports Hokie Nation. When we get something we go, we get to the point of where obnoxious. So we can be annoying, like my timeline was just, you know, people troll it. But you know what, I think that's what makes us special, how hard we ride for our program? How hard we ride for our sports but that was just a great night. I feel like the entire country was watching that game because I don't really think it was a great NBA game on and it is the ACC tournament Saturday night Primetime and was a great night for Virginia Tech Sports, especially the basketball program.

11:06 And A program. That's now been 25 ACC. I mean, NCAA tournaments and you know, I won't go as far to say we're a basketball school, I think when I hear that anyway, oh, that's a basketball school. That's the football school. I get it, we love our football. But I mean, I love the fact that Tech won that Championship, especially when Brian and Curtis. I know, you guys know this man. But, like, when we went into the ACC, there were a lot of teams that did not want us in that. For its do you know, you can't bear Wanna Be the top to the did not want us along with them in Miami and Miami was playing some shit behind the scene to get me seeing there instead of us. Yeah.

Never like this because we came in and we spoiled their party to when the Big East began, you know what supposed to be the Miami Hurricanes show and we came in and we took took that over man and we became their rival. I mean people now from Miami and they They they see I'm a tech guy and they're like, oh my God, we hate y'all. I said good, they're good. He said, you know, there's so many things that feel we are more of a rival to them than Florida State because of the conference years, in the Big East, those years, those battles, if you ever watch ESPN classic, or you go back and do your due diligence with your history of the program. Second Miami, especially in football.

12:31 It was vicious. It was, it was real. So I'm glad we got an ACC always thought when I got the tech I'm out. I love playing the Big East but I thought it made more 6. Make made more sense as far as demographics and proximity with the school so that move in 2004 has been great, you know, because I was there when the football program was in the Big East, the basketball program was in the Metro DC, you and Louisville. And in the the girls team wasn't another conference. It was crazy man. We were all over the place and for a while, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah people don't care speaking of girls there in the tournament to with Jeff crazy good.

13:13 So yes 11 teams that have in each Kenny doing a heck of up there and it's just you already said it's like earlier. Just during the basketball tournament, you see the tweets go out National Championship won in the what in women's track and field to up the pole vault V8 under And, and now you already mentioned it. We got some stuff on it later. I mean, what eight wrestlers going to Nationals? Yep, opt-in program. Yeah, it's this thing where we're going to talk a lot about football, but it's what's happened. In the last five, six years is, every other sport has gotten cultivated right called winning program, going to championships and now it's time to get the football program, right? We are years.

14:07 We saw the upgrades to facilities and now we're seeing Brian. This is bronze. This is Brian saying, I'm not, but it's true. We used to be a mom and pop organization company after what's happened. This last year, we have big business now in football. He's right. He's right, he's right. And I was never one of those, the players former players in denial. I mean, because when I was there, we had a equipment manager. He's a And dairy equipment as we had a guy named Lester Carlin and everybody back in the 90s, what is saying? Turf shoes. So if you are running about you or the same is Lyman shoes, so we call them Lester specials. So, like, you understand something, brought like, I was there during the Dark Ages when we were winning off, like, real grit.

14:54 Like we, I was there when the merriment Center was built my last couple of years, and I was there when we got sponsored by Nike. We will finally be able to get on the beach video games featured on EA Sports. But it was a mountain to climb and we were very fortunate when the Beamer ball website was created and when all that stuff happened, it was one of those situations where you could see the momentum coming. They got Kevin Jones. Obviously you all know my cousin is, they got Mike and it kind of elevated the program but they were winning still with they were willing with, you know, like rocks. They were winning. They will, it was a formula. But it was blue collar to the max. It was, you know, it's kind of making lemon lemonade out of.

15:35 Instead of just going to get the pre-made pack and we would just doing everything from the mud from the ground up, which made us tough mentally and physically, but you can only survive on that kind of toughness by getting no stars in one stars and two stars before so long. And it got to the point where we came in and hit the ground running in the ACC and it was magical and we came in and took over that conference in football. But I think when Clemson and Florida State and Miami elevated their finances and their stuff it got Real where it was like okay we didn't evolve we kind of got still like their beam aboard website was great for a long time but then it was like, okay, the internet got even bigger and we have that many coaches on.

16:17 We didn't have that many coaches on Twitter and I remember my gosh out to my God, but Foster, he talked to me on my podcast and he talked to me, even off the Record, we would talk just checking in with each other. He admitted, he messed this an interview today, vitiello. Maybe it was Angie bitter that the program, the recruiting pictures had gotten stale And you can tell because during 2014 and 2013 we were in the running for some amazing players. I think that 2014 class with some of the best D lineman in Virginia Tech History when you had to shine hand Josh wet, Tim settle, the kid that power that went to UNC. I mean with so many guys and we were in the running, Derek naughty, we were in the running for all those guys out of football camp.

17:01 Everybody, I mentioned was there and we kept finishing number two behind Florida, State Eight behind Penn State and it was because of wasn't so much the program with six and six. That was obvious. We had kind of fallen off but it was more so you can only push the Mantra of them, rabaul, and special teams, and blue collar and stuff. But so much. Because every now and then every few years, scuse me the generation changes and it's just like my son, like my son and turned 16 this year, he's grown up only knowing seeing UVA videos and football like one time, But at the same time, he also has seen the program at last several years. Struggled go three in one and start the season and fall off a cliff and barely make a bowl game. So in his mind, he's like, yo, what's up with your team? You know I'm saying because he's like it's like when I stole his team to, but he's like, you know, we used to be, it's all YouTube stuff.

You know, and that's when you realize that was time to change like Brian mentioned, because if you keep living off history and what she used to be and showing old clips as much as I love my era, I love the new era to. So I want us to show some new relatable stuff, some, some current events some stuff that that makes you pop right now, you know, you were talking about your area, your era was when when grit wasn't just a slogan. Yeah, yeah, listen man, I'm not I'm not My tab Ash Wednesday, I don't know him but I love, I love the Ho Chi Twitter account. I love social media. I think it's a gift but they also can be a curse.

18:45 I think for guys like us, we use it for the right reason. I love what y'all do a shout-out to my goddamn v? I loved on V and drift. I love a lot of these guys. I've met and Twitter spaces, so many great tech fans. I chop it up with even UVA another fan bases but the same time and I got so tired. I know Brendan. He will agree with me on this man and he Jay Park and those guys. I got so tired of the manufactured height like, you know, it just it just got to the point where like if you look and again, I'm not, I'm not that old school guy, get off my lawn guy. Like I'm just everything was so much better in my day and everything. The food was better. The Women.

19:25 Everyone was so much tougher. I'm not that dude. Like, it's not like that, man. I I think there's some talent and gas itself. Now, I think what it happens now is, Get a lot of Manufacturers height and I thought that that hard hat and that grit. And I thought that stuff was corny. I thought it was manufactured height because I see grit and toughness on the field. Like I don't know how many times in the last five, six years, it would be fourth and third and one and we would get stopped or have to call a timeout to run the same play in the same formation. And after by weeks off weeks, we had no Innovative plays, no wrinkles, nothing. New, toughness is not what you can talk about. Can get on Twitter right now and talk about I can do this and this I'm tough. I can bench and I'm strong.

20:10 I go to Dick's Sporting Goods and get sleeves and hoodies and flex on you. But at the end of the day that's not toughness. That's just manufactured hike because I can go and do all that and walk outside and get punched in the face. Y'all be like, man, big guy smack. I saw, you know, it's tough, you know, but I do think the kids, we have there the last several years were working hard but at the same time, if you don't really No, a working hard is if you haven't been pushed to that limit, if you don't really know what a winning culture is you're just really talking about it, right? So like before I got to Tech Tyrone Drake for and you know, Maurice, deshazo JC Price, William Boatwright, the groundwork has been laid even though right.

20:55 A few years before I got today, with 281 the year before I got there, Cornell Brown, those guys Antonio Banks were nine and three and then I came in and it was their culture present where I understood what toughness meant and I knew how to win. And I think that's what it's about, not so much. That manufactured height that we were seeing what, you know, I used to laugh but I I would retweet it. I would retweet it. Hoping that it would catch on, you know, out like you know, but we did the same really insane.

21:41 I've done in life. You saw that when the last two games this season he coached - the Maryland game that was embarrassing but that wasn't on him. We didn't have a team. I wish we we should we should we should have texted terms of score, you know. But at the end of the day, the UVA Miami gave. You saw finally then play with toughness and I think early on under Fuentes regime, you saw toughness those first few years because Bucky and Isaiah Ford and Edmunds, brother. Others. And Greg Stroman were tough. They just need. They needed an offense and I think they understood it. It was just that at that moment the program had cotton got stale but you saw toughness, you saw them, take Clemson, you saw mooc Reynolds and those guys take on Clemson and they went down to Florida State.

22:32 And you saw some toughness, it was just never sustain. It wasn't, it wasn't. Maybe that was because of lack of depth or maybe there was dissension and team, maybe that's when the whole thing happened with the Keep baking Fiasco and all that other nonsense. But at the end of the day meant there were moments when they showed it. I remember, I'm not gonna lie to y'all in the beginning, man when that when we, when he first got there and we won the coastal and he was coached a year and we went to a Bilbo and won 10 games. I said, man, we finally got it like it's time like, you know, that that Euphoria Euphoria. We feel with Mike young? Yeah, I felt that I was like, man, we got offense averaging.

23:12 40 points, a game and Jerrod Evans comes back for a year. And then all of a sudden man, somebody said, psyche, Got the got the carpet pulled out from under me. Yeah so we're talking about the transition period here when that was kind of going on. Yeah. After we kind of moved on from Flint a, there was a lot of Twitter spaces out there tally. I was a real fun but you were you kind of took on like a kind of a leadership role amongst the fan base among some of the Lum night as we were kind of moving through that. As you said, early talked about some hard truths fans of the athletic department kind of needed to hear. I say, what's up? Yeah, that's a real quick. There were times on those Twitter's faces. You were saying things and I think there were some fans that were muted probably with tears coming in their eyes. because, Someone of your ilk had not spoken like that in told the truth. Mmm Brian. I'm big fans of Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech's my home. I get emotional, I think about it, man. Like I'm No, I take on people have acknowledged me as like when the Virginia Tech ambassadors, you know, I'll ride with that, you know, I've written columns for 247 sports for years, whatever walk ins, and czy and all of them. And I used to be on Hoagie Haven, you know, before that and I did the pregame show with Kyle Bailey, Danny knows I've I did the pregame, bro. I mean, the spring game broadcast in 2013 for Virginia Tech.

I mean, I felt it needed to be said, because I felt like You know, I don't think all the fans understood like what this meant to all the former players, but you gotta understand man, even before, I'd the Vic 757 show, with my cousin Mike and all those guys that jumped on, I was having those conversations and group chats. I was on the phone, I was part of getting people back to Tech but guys didn't want to come back because they felt ostracized. So I was like, you know what, I'm a self-made, God. Like I have businesses. I'm a licensed clinician, I'm a father. So if this gets me in a situation where When say staff doesn't want me around and so be it. But it's funny because even before that all went down, I was a mediator when they started doing the alumni cuz you know, connections with resumes and stuff. So I realize that I'm very well respected and well-known but those Twitter spaces was me.

26:09 Just speaking from my heart man. Like you guys got understand something. I know you're probably saying way man. I am very very busy. So yes, when I get when I jump, when I jump on Twitter space after setting aside five hours, My Saturday to watch us beat for them or form, fareham, 24 to 13 and run the same jet sweeps and Dives on third down and no innovation and no connection with the fan base or when you go flirt with availa job and you come back with a Cryptid tweak, but there's no message you did. Because I was there when Beamer interview for the jobs, there were press conference, and you better said, there wasn't no femur did have a in a team meeting.

So I started to realize in those Twitter spaces, I have the credibility and the respect to speak on stuff because I'm not biased. So when I got no spaces, I, you know, I'll share this with everybody listening and watching my phone was blowing up, man. When I will be in, I'm going to have so many people saying. A guy said I can listen to Dwight Vic talk about sandpaper and I'm doing this and you know so I love the fact that people check for my tweets and stuff like this because I think people respect the fact I'm passionate but I'm sincere and I care about people and I care about text.

You know, like it just it just bothered me that we couldn't get to Spring games and that some of the best players in Virginia Tech History would not, welcome back. Back that, that that Dad hurt me, that hurt a lot of us. So you could probably through the passion. And, you know, again, that's just my school. Like, I care about tech, man.

I take pride in it, but I think Great thing about my guy be fish on Twitter. He said, you know, Iraq with you Vic because you don't think you're better than me. And I said, no, I'm not. We're all a work in progress. We're all in this together, then we all lose together, we all suffer together. Hopefully, we can start winning together. Don't say it. I'll say this, I still feel good because in the parking lot, I talk to people, I had never met with the Orangemen ruin on. We just talked about what we should have done on this down and how we need it. We can still run the table. We can just got to win this game, that's what it's about, right? That's what brings us together, man. But I feel like, yeah, I feel like text do, do you know I'm saying? He was like, Aaron's, the Virginia Tech grad. Aaron said what about pride? And I said, hmm, that will be a good one.

31:38 That's he's at Penn State. He was like nah, I'm telling you, I think text you go out to prime a I think the and then I would I kind of look That it and I was like, I didn't really hear. I think you guys mentioned them, right? He was our door chord. We had like ten kids, they were they were all the popular candidates and then we had like three or four dark oils like well, these are be interesting and he was one of those. Yeah, you guys did a great job on that. I he was not on my radar, but then when we hired him and I was like, that's a great higher. But I wasn't like jumping up and down as if it was the savior because I hadn't seen prior other than Interacting on Facebook or Twitter, I just knew him at Penn State. I didn't know he was a great recruiter because he was killing it.

And I will say this, I took off of work or maybe I was working from home, and I watched his press conference I'm not gonna lie to y'all. That press conference moved me, man. You don't really win championships with press conferences, but when he talked about that 95 season, that game against Miami, and he remembered, and he think, Beamer and his lip was quivering. And he, he would, I said, oh my God, we have, we finally ditched, this could be it and he's not even as I talk to you guys. I'm looking away cuz I'm going back to that moment and you making me you making me swallow up a little bit.

He's there gouveia Winslow, just two guys, they have JC price Deep got real Robert DB a DB dyrell Roberts nadara left and it's Some Darrell got that job in a G5 schools trying to get him as a wide receiver coach within two weeks. He tells you that fries hiring people that he won't.

I just think if he would have left him and his wife, who I love dearly, and she was on my podcast as well. Hall of Famer. Jin, route priced. They spent 17 years, trying to get back to Blacksburg. And I'm not going to make last year out to be some great season. We went six and seven but honestly JC said that class most that recruiting class. He saved the program because yes, Marilyn was a debacle was embarrassing but we had 25 opt-outs.
